Talay Lounge, NYC- Big Disappointment!

In my recent travels in the crazy streets of the city that never sleeps, I decided to vent the night away to a “recommended” venue that was supposed to be the talk of the town.  While this recommendation came from the establishments promoters who made the place sound as if it would be a night to remember, It’s actually a night I want to forget.

Before attending their Saturday night suaree, I decided to do some research.  I went on the venue’s website and it did seem promising.  Paying no mind to the negative reviews, I decided to go anyway.  After being placed on a guest list and promised entry at a reduced admission of $10.00, I was also told the dress code is pretty strict.  Not a problem I thought to myself.  I have been clubbing for years so I am in there, right?  I also decide to invite a couple of friends over ( 35 to be exact) to party and at the same time celebrate a birthday.  Boy was I disappointed!

So my friends and I arrive at 11:00 to then have to wait an hour online, while the bouncers at the door were letting trashy little party goers in.  Now, I am no Lady Godiva but I have been known to turn heads as also my guests.  We were being treated as the bubonic plague.  The staff was very discriminatory

towards the patrons and my friends.  Some of my friends were African American, others were a little thick, but gorgeous to say the least and were being told they could not enter because one guest didn’t have heels when she did, and the other looked too casual.  The real reason for not letting them in was because of skin color and because my friends were not the size 0 that they are accustomed to letting in to this place.

I approached the bouncer because at this point, it was ridiculous, and asked if my guests can at least use the bathroom.  They accommodated them with no problem, but that’s it.  I then asked why we can’t get in, and the bouncer stated that we have a large group and they are trying to accommodate us.  Really?  Is that why you kept stressing we pay $450-$600 just to sit at a table that seated two people?  On top of that, they tried to turn several of my friends away.  For those who know me, know that wasn’t going to happen.  The manager’s daughter pulls me aside and advised me that I have to understand that it’s a classy event.  So I turned around and advised her that I don’t care about the events going on aside from the one I had planned in advance.  I also advised her that if they didn’t let my friends in, I would take all of my friends to another venue and the bottom line is, you either want our money or you don’t!  She finally saw the light.

To top of the evening, the guest of honor arrives and is told he had to purchase bottles when clearly we already had a tiny table that was over priced.  the guests accompanying him were told to pay $40.00 at the door when they were on the guest list that said closed at 1:30 am- did I mention they were on the guest list for reduced admission?

I give this place a total thumbs down and would not be surprised if this establishment closed it’s doors.  They clearly do not know how to run a business.  The location is under a bridge in West Harlem, Valet parking comes at a price of $20.00, another $20.00-$40.00 at the door, after paying $450-$650 just for table service, the music was very dated and disappointing, The staff had to be chased down for service, men and women share a bathroom, and the “VIP” section was a disgrace.

This by far is the worst club in history.  They are High End wannabe’s with no manners and no business etiquette whatsoever.  If you want to spend your hard-earned dollars for an evening that will knock your socks off it’s not at Talay.

The Naked Blogger asks:

Do you think it’s o.k. for an establishment to turn away patrons because of size or race?

  1. Man, you would have to be a fool to intentionally wanna spend ur hard earned money in a booshie wanna be establishment!!! Guest list, HA! I was over charged not only at the door but even at the bar for a watered down drink not even for me but for the guest of honor! I’ve been clubbing since I was 16yrs old and have been to TOP-NOTCH Clubs in NYC, Miami, Dallas and in the Carribeans and I have never seen such horrendous business etiquette, starting from their toy-security to their ill manored bartenders, Trannies fellas stay back, and the Establishments owner or daughter whatever she wants to call herself…

I’m sorry but there two other establishments right down the block with better Atmosphere socially and way more professional business etiquette!!! Cafe’ and Dino’s will get my business but NEVER AGAIN TALAY’s!!!
