Music Makes Me Feel Like….

Posted in Blog, General on August 15, 2011 by Unrated Blog

I was driving home from a nice BBQ with my family and close friends yesterday.  As we drove by NYC’s own Chelsea region, we were pumping old school music, namely, Lodi Dodi by music icons Slick Rick and Doug E. Fresh.  So of course, amped up and in the moment, we were being the loud puertoricans we are known to be.  Singing and dancing in the car because of how that track made us feel, alive!  We weren’t the only ones!  A man, I would say middle aged, African American man  maybe about 40, well dressed and walking by – ducked his head to hear who was playing this song- then, to my surprise, starts dancing and carrying on as if in a nightclub surrounded by Victoria”s Secret models! He was going in on the track! I smiled and cheered him on because that’s what I do! He felt as I did at that moment, alive.  Reminiscing about the old school hip hop era where Run DMC were the kings, and every girl was a round the way girl.  I felt like a teenager again!

Music is the gateway to my past, a frequent reminder of who I am and where I have come from.  Music is in my heart and soul.  The one thing that will never stop making me laugh, cry, sing, dance, the one word that will calm me from a bad fight, breakup or remind me of the love I am experiencing, my youth.  Just one word with a very tremendous impact— MUSIC!

So when asked, what does music make you feel?  How will you respond?

Yes, I am back bitches!! As always, feel free to drop a comment …. Toodaloo!

Are Your Bad Habits Costing You Money?

Posted in Blog, Uncategorized on November 8, 2010 by Unrated Blog

WARNING, WARNING your bad habit may be burning a hole into your pocket.  Are you guilty of buying that morning cup of coffee, or that pack a day habit?  Do you play the Lotto?  Well, news flash, you may be responsible for burning that big hole called debt into your pocket.  Recent study shows that if you cut those spending habits, you may be adding about 1-5k to your retirement.

Let’s do the math.  Coffee is about $2.00 a cup, multiply that by 7 then by 12.  That’s $168.00 a year you spend on coffee whereas if you make coffee at home you can be saving.  Cigarettes are about $9.00 a pack .  A Pack a day habit is costing you $756.00 a year.  How about lotto?  The average person spends about $5.00 a day playing lotto which can cost $360 a year.  Now consider this, if you are a smoker, think of the other costs such as health insurance, home owner’s  insurance etc.  These numbers can add up costing you a fortune.  if you think about how much money you can save by cutting back on things such as smoking, gambling and buying coffee, you can add up to $1,500.00 to your retirement plan a year.  Now add up those numbers till retirement age of 62.  Pretty sweet I say.

On this note, before you go off and ill spend your weekly paycheck, think about that vacation you have always wanted to take when you retire, is it worth it to you to pinch that penny?  I think so.  Instead of rushing to your nearest Starbuck’s or Dunkin Donuts, for $2.99 you can buy a can of coffee in your local supermarket and have plenty to last you maybe even a month.  That’s probably a 55 cent habit but look at the savings.

In the words of our dear old pal the Scrooge, say “Bah Humbug” to ill spending and let’s start getting our finances back on track.

California’s ballot measure to legalize marijuana has a new friend: Facebook co-founder, Sean Parker, has given $100,000 to back the proposal.

Parker’s donation was reported in Proposition 19 campaign finance filings this week.

Get this,  he’s not the first big Proposition 19 donor with ties to the social networking site. Facebook co-founder Dustin Moskovitz has made two donations totalling $70,000, including a $50,000 contribution last month. Now, if that doesn’t say “Make it legal now!” What does?

Neither Parker nor Moskovitz are still with Palo Alto-based Facebook, but both still have ownership stakes. Recent estimates put the value of the privately held company as high as $33.7 billion.

“What’s interesting here is that (Parker) is a member of the generation that really gets it,” said StephenGutwillig, a spokesman for the Drug Policy Alliance, the main beneficiary of Parker’s contribution. “We think he’s pivotal to the future of drug policy reform in the country.”

The 30-year-old served as Facebook’s first president and helped transform the company from dorm-room project to big business. Parker and Moskovitz have become household names since the recent release of “The Social Network.” The film chronicling the contentious origins of Facebook was No. 1 at the box office last week.

Pop musician and actor Justin Timberlake plays Parker in the movie, which portrays him as a hotshot who convinces Facebook founder Mark Zuckerberg to push out his friend from the burgeoning company.

At age 19, Parker helped develop Napster, the music-sharing software that turned the recording industry upside-down. He is now a partner at Founders Fund, a Silicon Valley venture capital firm.

Parker did not immediately respond to e-mails seeking comment.

About $1.5 million of the $2.4 million raised so far in support of Proposition 19 has come from the measure’s main sponsor, Oakland medical marijuana entrepreneur Richard Lee. The only other six-figure donation not from Lee came from adult entertainment entrepreneur Phil Harvey, who gave $100,000.

Parker’s donation came shortly after the Yes on 19 campaign committee reported having meager cash on hand heading into the final weeks before the election. The money from Parker and Harvey went to a separate committee to fund the Drug Policy Alliance’s work on behalf of the measure.

Much of the money will go toward a get-out-the-vote campaign targeting young voters and voters of color, Gutwillig said.

Facebook recently came under fire from some marijuana advocates who claimed it was turning away advertising on the site in support of Proposition 19. Facebook said in a statement that company policy prohibits images of drugs, drug paraphernalia or tobacco in paid advertising but that ballot measure supporters were still free to advertise using different images.

All of this comes as a surprise and I am an avid member of the facebook team.  “Facebook Addicts” as myself have a newfound respect for the “Generation That Gets It”.  What can we expect next from this Social Network?

What’s Wrong With This Picture?

Posted in Blog, Uncategorized on September 23, 2010 by Unrated Blog

Little Wayne and TI get caught with guns, and do time in prison.  A lesson to be learned for these Hip Hop icons.  What about Paris Hilton and Lindsay Lohan?  They get caught driving drunk, they get with cocaine, the violate parole, are repeat offenders and what do they get?  A slap on the wrist.  Now lets face it.  If it were you or I , we would have gotten the mandatory 1-5 years in jail for driving under the influence and slapped with a $1,000-$5,000 fine.  Is this fair?  I think not.

Whether racially bias or corrupt judging, I think this is wrong and something should be said and done about this.  If I were a rich heiress……but I am not.  I believe that the legal system is sending out the wrong signals when it comes to law enforcement.  Because these big moguls want to keep their legacies out of tabloids and news feeds, they are able to get away with murder even.  Hey, for the right price, anything is possible, just ask O.J. Simpson.

TI arrested with his wife Tiny for a mere marijuana charge and get locked up and were told to pay $10,000 each for bail. Paris, who might I add was already on probation for wreck less driving, was caught with cocaine, and to top it off, tried to purger herself, was only put back on probation and was able to walk away.  What a sad day in the legal house of pain it is when repeat offenders keep getting away with these crimes because of skin color and money.  At least Japan has their legal system in check, denying the heiress entry in their country because of the drug charge.

What can we as regular people do about this?  Well, I have a though if you have 100 million dollars and skyscrapers with your name on it.  What about LiLo?  How can we forget about this Hollywood starlet who just continues to break the law as if it were part of her bucket list?  We sit and watch these celebutants constantly run in with the law and say to ourselves, what a pity, what a shame.  Next thing you know, murder will be a misdemeanor, aggravated assault will be a violation and kidnapping and rape will be punishable by fines to keep paying these corrupt judges and politicians.  Maybe TI and Lil Wayne should follow in the steps of Sammy Sosa, bleach their skin.  Who knows, maybe, just maybe they’re on to something.

The Naked Blogger wants to know: Do you think Lindsay Lohan and Paris Hilton got off easy?  Do you think It’s fair that Lil Wayne and TI got the short end of the legal system?  Do tell.  Please leave your comments and feedback.  All are welcome.  Toodaloo..
